Liz Harper

Elizabeth Harper (Liz) is a mother, grandmother, and the fifth of five sisters. She grew up on a working farm in Essex County that has been in the family since the 1700’s, avoiding as many chores as she could to read or paint with a little box of watercolors. Her mother always encouraged the children to love art, books, and music. Liz was further encouraged by Susan Hogge, the beloved art teacher during her time at St. Margaret’s School. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the College of William and Mary, Liz had a corporate career, raised a family, but continued to dabble in art when time allowed.
Upon retirement, Liz returned to her roots on the family farm and has volunteered with the Tappahannock Artists Guild. “Surrounded by the creativity and skills of some of the guild artists, I’ve been inspired to return more consistently to working in acrylics, primarily painting the landscapes that surround me and a still life here and there. Despite my best efforts to “loosen up” and move towards more movement in my imagery, I remain pretty literal in my results.”
