Amie Oliver’s experience teaching painting, drawing and mixed media began at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Her experience as a professor, workshop leader and lecturer includes the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Tyler School of Art, Virginia Commonwealth University, Mississippi State University and Longwood College.
Oliver’s exhibition records include hundreds of solo and group exhibitions in the USA, Europe, China, S. Korea, Tibet and Australia. Her studio practice has been supported by fellowship and exchange opportunities at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Oberfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Germany, Moulin Nef in France, the Salzburger Kunstverein in Austria, Vermont Studio Center and Metasenta Foundation in Tibet, China.
Her work is included in numerous permanent collections: Capital One, Longwood Center for Visual Arts, Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Delta State University, Hampden-Sydney Poetry Review, Bowling Green State University, Medical College of Virginia, Mississippi State University; Buckingham Branch Railroad, Lykes Shipping Lines and the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Germany. Amie maintains a studio in Richmond, Va where she is an emeritus board member of 1708 Gallery.
“River Rendezvous” begins and ends with water from the Tappahannock, the James, the Potomac, and other coastal terrains- mixed with permanent ink, acrylic paint, liquid graphite and occasional sand, crystals and regional remains. Her paintings and work on paper explore shifting coastlines and transitions between regions, climates and seasons. Each painting or drawing explores the essence of its origin and its endless journey.
